Busch has announced the introduction of a Mercedes C-class sedan which may well set the new standard for 1/87 scale automobile models. This model, available only at DaimlerChrysler dealers until September, 2000, has such features as reflective headlights and tail lamps, visible brake disks behind the wheels, Mercedes "star" logo on the steering wheel, and an interior rear-view mirror. Overall finish of this model is extremely well done! For all the details, check this page.
Busch has announced for 2000 the release of four sets of inexpensive cars. While these use the same tooling as the regular models, there are no chrome-plated parts or pad printing. The set that might be of most interest to club members (at those of us in North America) is set #5997 which consists of the 1952 Cadillac 2-Door Coupe, the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-Door hardtop, and the 1955 Corvette Coupe. The other sets feature European cars from the 50s, 60s and 80s. Walthers lists it as set 189-5997 with a "TBA" price and no delivery date. If your dealer orders their Busch products from E-R Model Importers, it's listed as set 013-5997 with a suggested retail of $14.95. The total for the same models in the standard versions is $31.97, so you save over 50%.
You have to check out the Busch #7642 Christmas 2000 mini-diorama in the 2000 catalog; it's got Santa with a 1950 Chevy monster truck.
