Ralph Ratcliffe Models has announced the immediate availability of a Mack K-600 resin cab kit in 1/87 scale. Never heard of a Mack K-600? Here's the story straight from William:
"So here's the story on the Mack K-600; I'm at the Mack Trucks Historical museum, getting a great "behind the scenes" tour by my friend Doug Maney and we're looking through files and drawers full of artist concepts, and photos of prototype concepts, mostly clay models. Doug pulls out this file folder with lots of photos and one set of photos shows a "K-600"!!....Whaaaaaat, I ask? In 1960, Mack engineers created this prototype, a fully operating, sheet metal prototype on wheels, frame, engine, and all. I'm flabbergasted; this truck is COOL looking and I never knew such an animal ever existed. Basically, it's an F- model cabover, moved forward and down, to a virtually identical configuration to that of the Ford "C" cab, which, as most of you know, was a Budd built cab that Mack eventually used, designated the "N" model. Why Mack never produced the K-600, I don't know, but I certainly wish they had. So I took some photos of the original photos and used them to create this cab master. Here is my model of the "lost" K model Mack cab with one of my 1500 gallon tanker bodies mounted."
The price for the cab kit is $20.00 and it includes the parts shown in the kit picture above. The finished model was built using parts available separately from Ralph Ratcliffe Models including the 1500 gallon tanker body, six spoke wheels, a frame buck kit, fire truck tools and accessories, and photo-etched mirrors.
