This machine was probably the most common log loader in the northwest U.S. It is a Link-Belt model LS 98 TL with the optional two foot elevated cab. Roger Dowden built this model using a track assembly and counterweight from a Sheepscot Link-Belt kit and constructed the rest from brass and aluminum (see bottom photo). The one exception is the Detroit Diesel 6-71 diesel engine from Ralph Ratcliffe Models. Building a working log grapple was an interesting challenge, reports Roger. The paint and weathering came from his dwindling cache of Floquil paints.
