Gary Walton, known for his very realistic
prototype modeling of vehicle and intermodal models, sent us a few shots
of his latest project. The base kit is Walther's 48' Stoughton van,
rear door from Walther's 45' van, A-Line floor, A-Line wheels, Lonestar
Models tires, Microscale Decals. Base kit for the reefer is a heavily modified
A-Line old style Carrier. How-to article appeared in Model
Railroading Magazine, July 2002.
Prototype information: Transamerica Distribution Services, Great Dane
built ThermaCube sandwich-wall van with a Carrier Thunderbird refrigeration
unit. Purpose built in 1990 for rail use. Only six were built as test
units before TDS was sold to Mark VII. As of 2002, only 4 remain in
service.
