New York Central Elevated Railway in New York City - By Erik Block & Evan Daes
Erik Block and Evan Daes recently built this new train layout, called The High Line. The layout is based on railroading in New York City between 1945-1950. They modified some Classic Metal Works vehicles and a Athearn model into real driving vehicles. It's a little based on the Faller Car System, but different.
The cars have their own "electronic" driver; that is to say each moving vehicle has a printed circuit board, a battery, and about 32 wires each. This all to drive controlled and use headlights, blinkers, and stop lights. The cars also know exactly where they are on the layout with infra-red lights hidden in the scenery. It takes up to 15 hours to rebuild one vehicle but Erik motes it's worth it! The cars are made with the technology of DC Cars in The Netherlands and ride on a hidden magnetic strip.
