Caterpillar D5 Logging Dozer - By Dennis Raper

This logging lowboy from Dennis Raper has had the deck of a Norscot die-cast lowboy shortened by 5 scale feet and the rear axle removed to convert it to a 35 ton instead of a 50 ton unit. He replaced the flaps on it, cut the gooseneck off and sleeved and plated it to accept a pin so that the neck can be detached and/or attached. Dennis also drilled holes down the frame sides and along the neck and painted it to match a Mack CH truck tractor.

The Cat D5 dozer has been modified with limb risers added to the cab, a brush guard on the blade, and screen on the rear window. The Norscot dozer is chained to the lowboy with A-Line chain. Dennis used a drinking straw to make a 16' long, 2' diameter steel pipe culvert that is ratchet-strapped down to the lowboy and added a "red flag" hanging from the culvert. All weathering was done with Bragdon and Bar Mills powders and some dry brushing and washes. Previously featured in Photo Gallery 476.
