Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Jack Pynes' Mack RM600 Truck Tractor - By Dennis Raper

This remarkable model from Dennis Raper was built from a Ralph Ratcliffe Mack RM600 resin kit. Dennis mounted it on a Herpa White Road Commander chassis with Herpa wheels & tires and adding Ralph's fuel tank and air horn, an air tank under the cab from Dennis Aust, an Imex tire (for the re-cap laying on the frame rails behind the cab with exposed cord), some scale chain, Plano mirrors,a scratchbuilt battery box, battery, battery cables, toolbox, headache rack, bumper, step, and other details. Dennis made the "flat" tire on the left front by holding the tire against a hot stove eye with a pair of needle-nose pliers. He "broke" the hood latch, door latch, and marker light by shaving them off with a utility knife and regluing them back on. Dennis used some fine spun wire for the marker light wiring as well as for the spring loaded water hose fitting behind the cab. The water tank is supposed to represent a pressurized water tank for putting out fires or adding water to the truck's radiator; he plumbed it out using brass wire. The quarter fenders are from a Ralph Ratcliffe DMMEX Mack twin steer cab that Dennis removed from the cab, turned them around backwards, and glued them on. The decals are individual letters from MicroScale. "Jack pine" is a horribly rough tree that nobody likes to cut so Dennis thought he'd give this horribly rough old truck the name of "Jack Pynes' Logging".
