Maine Lake Steam Boat - By David Fugere

First-time contributor David Fugere scratchbuilt this Maine lake steamboat. The hull was formed from balsa using a scroll saw and finished with sandpaper blocks to get the final shape. A coating of sanding sealer and many layers of paint with wet sanding between each coat resulted in the final finish. Pilot house and deck house are made from sheet and strip styrene from Evergreen. The lifeboat was built up around a thicker piece of styrene to help form the sides. Seats were added after the basic boat was complete. A paper clip was cut to represent the supports for the stern roof over the open passenger seating area. A light wash of india ink and rubbing alcohol helps tone down and weather the boat.
