This model by Richard Sweetman is a conversion of a Herpa Range Rover.
The Royal Air Force needed a rapid intervention vehicle for Aircraft
crashes. The large fire tenders (appliances) were too slow to get to
crashed aircraft quickly so a specialist manufacturer took a standard
Range Rover and fitted it with 6 wheels and made this vehicle. It is
known as a TACR (Truck Airfield Crash Rescue) Mk. 2 and carries
200 gallons of water and a crew of up to 4. Although fitted with 6 wheels
it has limited off-road capability, but at its height was in use at
every RAF airfield.
