David Flynn built this 1948 Dodge Powerwagon brush truck owned by
the Kings Park (NY) Volunteer Fire Dept. between 1963 and 1978. Dave
found only one grainy photo of it and built his model from that photo.
It had a front mounted pump and he built it based on his memory with
additional recollections of two firemen from what they remembered
about the truck.
On the model, Dave painted the fenders red, added the pump, a tank
in the bed, a hose reel, fire extinguishers, etc. The pump is not accurate,
as he took it from the Roco WWII Opel pump/tank truck (tan). The hose
reel is from that model, as well. The battering ram is from a Roco
Jeep (CJ5). Dave says he thinks the tank is cut down from some part
of a Praline American LaFrance fire truck. Mirrors are from a Sheepscot
truck kit. The decals are homemade. The fire extinguishers on the running
boards and the two "Indian
Cans" (water
cans that
get strapped to the firefighter's back) in the bed are from unknown
sources. The red license plates with
white numbers are printed on Avery labels. The fender mounted
siren is from a Boley S&S pumper. The turn signals are cut from
some black plastic rod with a dab of orange on the front and red on
the back. Dave dry brushed a little red on the grille.
