This very interesting little model is of a 1918 FWD that was completely
built from scratch. The model was constructed with styrene, brass rod,
and scale lumber. The wheels were made up using the centers from Grandt
Line 43" cable sheaves, and using 7/16" plastic tubing that
was filed down to 36" in 1/87 scale to represent the cast "steel" wheels
and solid rubber tires. The hot rod on deck was built using parts left
over from several kits back in the mid 1970s, and the driver figure
is an old out of date metal figure that is no longer manufactured.
Approximately 15,000 FWDs were built for the U.S. Military during WWI.
