Constructed in 2003, this model of a 1915 Jeffery Quad is completely
scratchbuilt. Even the wheels are custom made. The centers of the wheels
came from the larger 1/2" Circus Craft Wagon Wheels that were
cut out and epoxied into slices of 7/16" plastic tubing that was
then filed down to a scale 36". The wheels were drilled with a
small bit in a pin vise between each spoke to make the spokes thinner.
This process took several hours but with good results. The cab and
chassis were made of styrene and brass, and the cargo box was constructed
of scale lumber that was stained with thinned down paints. Finally,
the model was painted a rust color, and the paint was "oxidized" and
weathered with dry colors before it fully cured.
