Wiking announced their first batch of releases for
2006 – without
any new Volkswagens this time. Expect the following models to be available
in late January (or rather late February in the U.S.):
New tooling
866 39 33 – 1961 Kaelble KDV 22E dumper. Kaelble
of Backnagng, Germany, was renown for heavy tractors. In the 1950s,
large dumpers were added to the range as the construction industry
was booming. 200 to 300 hp were quite a word those days – but
a necessity to move some 37 metric tons.
396 02 28 – Fendt 1290 S square baler. Fendt,
part of Agco Group, has their large balers manufactured alongside
the most similar Massey Ferguson balers in Hesston, Kansas. After
the initial release in MF’s signature red, Wiking adds the
green version with Fendt logos.
New decorations
071 11 32 – 2003 VW Touareg "emergency
doctor". A design study that was introduced at the 2005 Hanover Interschutz show.
601 08 33 – 2005 Mercedes A-class W169 "command
car". Quite a little car, but it makes the most out of limited
space. Only consequently, DaimlerChrysler started to offer the new
Baby-Benz to downtown fire brigades in search of versatility.
848 40 38 – 1962 Magirus Mercur (square-nose)
beverage truck "Herforder Bier". Following two beverage
truck with 1950s’ Magirus Mercur ound-nose cabs, this is the
first square-nose Mercur not to come in a fire brigade’s livery..…but
of course, there is another red Mercur, too:
861 09 35 – 1962 Magirus Mercur (square-nose)
stake-truck "fire brigade".
219 03 28 – 2002 Mercedes E-class, metallic
flint grey. Another paint scheme for Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling
sedan.
821 06 24 – 1969 Ford Capri, deep wine red.
Sporty and practical at the same time. And a huge success within the
Wiking range. The popular sports car from Cologne, Germany, receives
its sixth paint job.
847 02 27 – 1963 Opel Rekord A, dove blue.
The second color scheme for the long-awaited Opel Rekord Mk1, openly
quoting GM’s lines of its time.
870 04 26 – 1953 Unimog 401, dark blue with
red wheels. It gets better and better with each iteration – Wiking
granted the old Unimog new wheels and a canvas top a while ago. This
is the first time a civilian version features all the latest improvements.
They keep on calling it 411, though.
877 03 20 – Fahr farm tractor, bright red.
Another classic, both in real life and as part of the Wiking catalogue.
538
13 42 – 2001 Steyr STA XXL-cab tractor-trailer "Manner" (Austria).
Pink is Vienna-based Manner confectionary’s signature color, with
a couple of Wiking models wearing them in recent years. The wafers are
much, much better than this truck suggests, though!
Special thanks to Marc Schmidt for providing our Wiking
information and comments!
