As part of the 1999 1/87 Vehicle Club convention,
club members were treated to a tour of the Freightliner Corporation
truck assembly plant in Portland, Oregon. Approximately 40 of
us were treated to a complete tour of the facility. Unfortunately,
we were not allowed to take any pictures inside the production
areas. Below are some shots of finished vehicles outside on the
"ready lot".

very long wheelbase, square end frame rails, high flotation
front tires. |

This FLD120 is one
of the most common Freightliner conventionals seen on the
road. As yet there is no model available in 1/87 scale. |
 |
This FLD series cab
built for the United States military features "anti-radar"
paint. Based on the civilian FLD120, outfitted with all-wheel

This Century Series
is one of the newest Freightliner conventionals seen on the
road. Seen here undergoing water leak testing, this unit is
part of a large order seen on the assembly line during our
visit to the plant. Although announced two years ago as a
product under development, there is no model currently available
in 1/87 scale. |
