Even though the summer heat is still with us (at least
in the Northern Hemisphere), the holiday season will be on us before
you know it. With that in mind, it’s time to kick off the Second
Annual 1/87 Vehicle Club Holiday Model Contest. This year, there will
be two categories: Holiday Scene and Holiday Model. The first category
is for dioramas or layouts featuring one or more 1/87-scale vehicle
models in a scale scene. The second is for individual models.
To enter: 1. Build a diorama or a model. 2. Take a photograph.
3. Send it in. Prints should be sent to:
2002 Holiday Model Contest
1/87 Vehicle Club
1735 N. Story Rd. PMB #168
Irving, Texas 75061 USA
Digital photographs must be sent to: [email protected].
Please include a reference to “2002 Holiday Model Contest”
in the subject line of your e-mail. Do not send photos to any other
Club e-mail address.
All entries must include your name and complete address
(if you win, we need to know where to ship the prize, right?) as well
as an e-mail address. Check the complete Rules listing below for the
"fine print" stuff. [09/03/2002]
2002 Holiday Model Contest Rules
1. The contest is open to anyone. Entrants under
the age of eighteen must have permission from a parent or guardian
(this is because we post the winner’s name on the Club web
site).
2. All entries must have a holiday or holiday season theme.
3. The particular holiday is up to you, subject to the following
limitations: It must be a holiday observed annually in more than
one nation and observance must take place each year between September
30 and January 1.
4. The theme and presentation must be tasteful and suitable for
viewers of any age.
5. For the Holiday Scene competition, all major elements of the
scene (vehicles, structures, figures, etc.) must be in 1/87 scale
± 5%. The sole exception will be natural backgrounds in
scenes photographed outside.
6. For the Holiday Model competition, the subject must be a vehicle
in 1/87 scale ± 5%.
7. By submitting an entry, you are certifying the scene or model
meets the contest standards and is your own work. Exceptions:
If the scene or model is the result of a collaborative effort,
each participant must be identified.
8. If you did not take the picture you are submitting, the name
of the person taking the photograph must be included with your
entry.
9. Mailed entries must be postmarked by Thursday, December 12,
2002. Electronic entries must be received by 11:59 P.M. Eastern
Standard Time (U.S.A.) on Thursday, December 19, 2002. The 1/87
Vehicle Club is not responsible for lost, damaged, or misdirected
entries.
10. By entering the contest, you accept the following conditions:
All entries become the property of the 1/87 Vehicle Club and may
be reproduced in Club publications or on the Club web site without
notice or compensation.
11. Judges will be selected by the contest sponsor and their decisions
are final.
12. Prizes: Each competition will have a First Prize and a Second
Prize. The contest sponsor will supply all prizes and bear all
costs of shipping the prizes to the winners. Any taxes, customs
duties or other fees required by law are the responsibility of
the winner. A list of prizes will be posted on the Club web site.
The prize pool for the 1/87 Vehicle Club’s Second
Annual Holiday Model Contest is even better than last year’s.
The total value is well over $500.00 and the prizes are models you
will enjoy.
There will be four winners:
First Place and Runner-up in the Holiday Model competition and First
Place and Runner-up in the Holiday Scene contest. In keeping with
the season, the prize packages are built around a Christmas Tree theme. All four winners will receive:
A Christmas Tree rig featuring a Lonestar’s
new pre-assembled 40’ Trailmobile flatbed trailer
with a Promotex Mack CH613 tractor (A prototype CH613
pulling a modified flatbed trailer was used to carry the National
Christmas Tree to from Glen Ayre, North Carolina, to Washington, D.C.
in 1998).
Wiking’s new Massey-Ferguson 8280 Tractor with Trailer for hauling the trees from the field to the truck.
Atlas Ford F-150 Pickup – a “must”
for any farm.
Athearn Ford C-Cab Coca-Cola Stake bed truck - the
workers will get thirsty during the harvesting.
Busch 2002 Christmas VI Mini-Diorama with custom
Messerschmitt – polar bears help Santa deliver the tree.
In addition, the first-place winner in the Holiday Model
division will get the Herpa Fulda Christmas tractor-trailer.
The first-place winner in the Holiday Scene judging will get a Herpa
2002 Advent Calendar with four special Private Collection
models.
I want to thank Lonestar Models for supplying the Trailmobile
trailers. I also want to thank Flint Imports, Promotex and Truck Stop
Models for their assistance in helping me to put together a great
bunch of prizes.
This is my second year of sponsoring the 1/87 Vehicle
Club’s Holiday Model Contest and I hope to see entries from
many of you. Bill C.
The 1/87 Vehicle Club thanks Bill for his
personal sponsorship of this contest and encouraging diorama modelers! [posted 09/28/2002]
