Mack R - The
runaway winner in the most actively voted category (Mid Year
Conventional) and highest vote getter in any category is the
ubiquitous Mack R model. Distant runner-up was the International
Paystar. |
|
Freightliner Business Class FL-80 -
Almost as clear-cut a winner as the Mack R, another runaway winner
in a very popular class (Modern Medium Duty) was the Freightliner
FL-80, an extremely popular choice. Distant runner-up was the GMC
Brigadier. |
|
Autocar DC-100 - This
truck was an extremely popular choice in the Transition Category.
Runner-up was the Mack B model. |
|
International 9670 - Another
category runaway winner was the International 9670 in the Modern COE category.
This extremely popular truck is badly needed by mid-80s to present
truck fleet modelers and intermodal modelers. Runner-up in the
category was the surprising Mack MH followed closely in third by
the Kenworth K-100E. |
|
International Loadstar -
The most popular choice in a surprisingly popular category (Mid
Years Medium Duty) was the International Loadstar. Very close
runner-up was the Ford F-700-1000. |
|
International CO-4070A/B Transtar/Transtar
II - In the closest balloting in any category
(Mid Years COE) throughout the entire period, the
International Transtar/Transtar II won by just four votes over the second
place Kenworth K-100 Aerodyne. |
|
Freightliner Century 120 -
In the most populous class (Modern Conventional) with
the most fragmented voting, the Century was the clear favorite.
From the voting it appears there are no "losers" in our
poll in this category and any choice would make a successful commercial
model. In a tie for second place were the Volvo VN day cab, and,
somewhat surprisingly, the Western Star 4900 and just one vote
behind in a virtual tie was the Kenworth W900L! |
|
1939 Peterbilt - Although
the Pre-WW II category generated the least interest, our
list of vintage candidates drew quite a few votes. Runner-up was
the Mack E model. |
Our 2003 Heavy Truck Survey is now history and we have
accumulated some very interesting results. Listed above are the winners'
photos in each survey category ranked by response totals. Probably
the least surprising result is that the Mack R is still at the top
of most everyone's list of most desired model for mass production (injection
molded plastic). Other obvious "no-brainer" choices are the
Freightliner FL-80, International 9670, and Freightliner Century. Several
of our categories contained nothing but great choices and it showed
in the close balloting in the Modern Conventional category. We'll have
further analysis in a few days. Check out Final
Status page for the ranking within each category. [posted
