As an update to our previous 2000 Chicago Hobby Show coverage
we have posted some additional photographs and have received some very
interesting news. As is sometimes the case, we have now found out that
we missed what may become a significant development. From Jan Scholten
(who furnished us our previous photo of the MGM Honda NSX) we're told
that Schuco has announced a line of 1/87 scale trucks to be called "Schuco
Junior Line". Their first product was supplied to Fleischmann for
inclusion in one of their train sets. The Junior Line features diecast
cabs on plastic chassis. The particular model shown above also has plastic
van bodies. I walked past the Schuco booth several times in Chicago
and I assumed the models I saw in Chicago were re-boxed Herpa models!
Schuco has announced that they will be producing the MAN F2000 Evo (shown
above), Mercedes-Benz Actros, Iveco Eurostar, and Scania 4 series. We
anticipate these will be available in a variety of configurations. The
models are produced in China and are expected to be priced at only 1/4
to 1/3 the price of comparable Herpa models! Although aimed at young
collectors, these may be very interesting to serious modelers and collectors
as well. [Thanks very much to Jan Scholten for this info!]
