Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B "Hunting Tiger" WWII Tank - By Rick Hoskinson

Jagdtiger ("Hunting Tiger") is the common name of a German heavy tank destroyer of World War II. This impressive model was built from a Herpa model that was over a scale foot too short; Rick cut apart the Herpa models and strip styrene was added to lengthen the hull and track assemblies. The barrel was scratchbuilt to proper scale and all fans and radiators got brass screens. The gun travel lock was scratchbuilt as well as the tow cables and cleaning rods. The weld bead around the hull machine gun was created with auto glazing putty. All molded on periscopes were removed and new ones were installed with 35mm film negative used for lenses. The molded on roof ventilator was removed and a new one was made and installed. The roof mounted antenna was turned and tapered from .010" brass rod. The track guards were cut apart and sections were removed; the remaining sections were thinned to scale thickness and installed. Model Masters paint was used for the late war two color camo scheme and TL decals applied. Weathering was done with pastel chalks, art pencils, and dry brushing.
