According to builder Alan Olson, Mound Metalcraft is a City Classics kit altered with a 'bowstring' roof and scratchbuilt front sign/canopy. The dock is a homemade plaster casting with a metal roof. Although the building is fictional, Mound Metalcraft is the original name for the company that became Tonka Toys Inc. The "Tonka" vehicles are modeled after real ones: 1963 Ford F100 (Walthers); 1965 era White Freightliner (Athearn shortened and re-detailed with single headlight) and Athearn 40ft trailers, all with hand lettering. The yard tractor is scratchbuilt on an old Revell Ford C chassis - it has an operating lifting 5th wheel.
