Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

1907 Mack 7 Ton Truck - By Randy Sawyer

Randy Sawyer scratchbuilt this 1/87 scale truck model in August of 2006 from a drawing found in a book about old trucks. Styrene sheet and strip styrene were used extensively to build the cab and box. Brass sheet was used for the top of the hood and fenders. The marker lanterns are by Precision Scale, leaf springs by Evergreen Hill, and drive chain along with the shift levers from a Jordan American LaFrance Pumper kit. The wheels for the model were fashioned from Circus Craft Wagon Wheels. These were made narrower and smaller in diameter by shaping them with a small file. The tires were made from 3/8" plastic tubing shaped and stretched considerably to make 1/87 scale old style spoked truck wheels with simulated solid rubber tires.
