Bub, an old name in metal toys and just reestablished, produced a special edition on behalf of Deutsche Post Collection. In 1963, the German post’s telecommunication branch received four Kaelble KDV tractors for heavy-duty tasks. A model of one of these, complete with a lowboy trailer and painted in the 1960s’ phone-service paint scheme, is now available as a die-cast model at the Deutsche Post shop, www.deutschepost.de/philatelie. Other color schemes will probably be available through hobby shops at a later time. Just like the early Wikings and current Schuco Piccolos, the model is more of a toy (and collector’s item) than a miniature model. Still, the details look promising.

Herpa announces the last batch of models for 2003, which will be delivered to hobby shops in November and December. Some of these are made from entirely new tooling while others are just new print versions.
101530 – Mini Cooper S “United States”, Private Collection US$ 18.95 006318 – Mini Cooper S “United States”, Promotex Special Edition US$ 13.95 101554 – Mini Cooper S “Cuba”, Private Collection US$ 18.95 The colorful edition of flag-topped Minis is completed with these two versions. As before, the models will come with black bodies, white wheels and matching hood stripes. If you don’t want to wait and do want to save some money, a more affordable Stars & Stripes Mini without the display box is currently available from Promotex, Herpa’s North American distributor as No. 006318. All are limited editions.
101660 – BMW Alpina B7, Private Collection US$ 17.95 One of the stars of this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show, both as model and a prototype, and probably the most difficult (read: impossible) promotional model to get. To differentiate the Herpa model from the Alpina-blue IAA special, the PC version of the luxury sedan with its supercharged V8 engine will be delivered in metallic black. New tooling. 023214 – Mercedes-Benz Viano US$ 9.57 033213 – Mercedes-Benz Viano, metallic paint US$ 10.50 Following its commercial brother with the Vito badge, which Herpa introduced two months earlier, Mercedes’ not-so-mini minivan makes its appearance in the regular range. It, too, will come with the medium-length wheelbase. Visual differences from the Vito vans are body-colored bumper sections, roof railings and light alloy-wheels. The first releases will be red and metallic aqua blue. New tooling.

149785 – MAN ME 2000 L-cab snowplow (community service) US$ 19.95 Just in time for the winter season, Herpa reworks their winter service truck and adds the newest small MAN cab. The salt spreader may be replaced by a street sweeper body (which won’t come with this model, though).
150040 – Starter Set Fire Brigade N/A Continuing the successful series of Starter Sets, Herpa combines Vollmer’s well-known modern fire station with five of their own fire vehicles. 046039 – Mercedes-Benz Sprinter EMS-van “Düsseldorf Fire Brigade” US$ 15.75 Herpa has offered emergency vehicles from North-Rhine Westphalia’s state capital before. The white van gets its red and yellow markings by use of self-adhesive foil graphics. 046077 – MAN ME 2000 L-cab LF 16/12 “Fire Brigade” US$ 21.50 LF, or Löschfahrzeug, classifies the truck as a pumper. The numbers that follow indicate the pump’s power, 1600 liters per minute, and the tank’s minimum capacity, in this case 1200 liters. “LF” is also used as an abbreviation for “Löschgruppenfahrzeug,” the designation for a pumper with a crew (“Gruppe”) of 9 firefighters. The initial release of Herpa’s newest fire truck, decorated for the city of Recklinghausen, sold out quickly. Now, the model will come in a generic design, featuring a red body with yellow markings. 046084 – MAN ME 2000 M-cab HLF 2000 “Fire Brigade“ US$21.50 Another generic fire truck, but an HLF (Hilfeleistungslöschfahrzeug), similar to an American rescue pumper, this time. It is similar to the more common LFs, but carries more equipment. The “HLF 2000” is actually a trade name given to this style of body by Zeigler, the manufacturer. The official designation for this truck is “HLF 24/20.” 149778 – Scania R124 L Topline truck and full trailer, “Peter Worms” US$ 30.95 Worms Transportation used to be part of the larger Talke group, which explains the colors chosen. The company operates independently now. 149549 – Iveco Stralis truck-tractor with Safeliner semi-trailer, “TCH” US$ 31.95 Truck Center Hauser, based in Dieburg, Hesse, offers a large range of trucks and trailers for rent or lease. The Stralis is the latest addition to the red fleet. Herpa offered a couple of TCH’s MANs and Scanias in recent years. 149792 – Scania R164 L Topline tractor-trailer, “Transmess” US$ 34.95 Following the impressive Volvo show truck, Herpa now introduces a most simply colored, black and white rig of the Transmess fleet. Limited edition. 149907 – Scania T124 L Topline truck-tractor with reefer semi-trailer, “Hüfner” US$ 41.95 Due to length restrictions, conventionals are rare sights in Europe. Hüfner Transportation is one of the few companies to operate such a tractor. The striking paintjob makes it even more exceptional. It is the second Hüfner rig to be made by Herpa. Limited edition. 149914 – 1996 Mercedes-Benz Actros L-cab tractor-trailer “Huppertz” US$ 30.95 Huppertz is a large forwarder from the city of Cologne, Germany. All of their trucks feature this very simple design. 149952 – 2002 Mercedes-Benz Actros LH-cab truck-tractor with silo semi-trailer “Farwick” US$ 31.95 Herpa trucks in Farwick colors used to be special editions, made for an Oldenburg hobby shop. The silo is the longer Feldbinder version. Limited edition. 149808 – Scania R124 L Topline truck and full trailer, “Ansorge” US$ 31.95 Ansorge Logistics are well known for their Bärenmarke rigs, promoting a dairy brand. Limited edition. 149815 – 2002 Mercedes-Benz Actros L-cab truck-tractor with silo semi-trailer, “Eggers” US$ 31.95 Eggers transportation has been specialized on food services since more than fifty years. The model comes with the shorter Feldbinder silo. Limited edition. 149891 – MAN TGA XXL-cab truck-tractor with reefer semi-trailer, “Willy Bruhn” US$ 30.95 One more model of a black truck of an international forwarder. 149822 – Mercedes-Benz/Titan Actros SLT heavy-duty tractor with Goldhofer lowboy semi-trailer, “Kübler” US$ 51.95 The very first heavy-duty Actros by Herpa came in Kübler’s colors. The new version differs in that it features the prototypically correct tanks and cooler units, which are mounted behind the cab. The model comes with a large canvas-covered cargo load. 149877 – Iveco Stralis truck-tractor with stake semi-trailer, “Wallek” US$ 31.95 The tractor is supplied by Rietze. It will be delivered with Herpa wheels and semi-trailer. Limited edition. 149853 – 2002 Mercedes-Benz Actros L-cab truck and volume trailer, “Smidbersky“ (Czech Republic) US$ 31.95 149969 – MAN TGA XXL-cab truck with silo semi-trailer, “Essers” (Belgium) US$ 31.95 Herpa expands the series of trucks from various European countries by two more rigs. The Czech Republic will only be part of the European Union in the years to come. Limited edition each. 150026 – Mercedes-Benz “Neue Klasse” truck and full trailer, “Talke” US$ 37.95 150033 – MAN F8 truck and full trailer, “Wandt” US$ 37.95 Both Talke and Wandt are big themes among Herpa collectors. No wonder Herpa chose these companies when they decided to re-issue rigs from 20 years ago, but enhanced by today’s printing standards. Both models will be available complete with license plates and other decorations, featuring modern multi-part wheels. 149976 – 1996 Mercedes-Benz Actros 4143 S-cab four-axle dumper US$ 20.95 149983 – MAN TGA M-cab truck and full trailer with container load US$ 34.95 149990 – MAN E2000 Evolution heavy-duty tractor with Goldhofer modular lowboy trailer US$ 34.95 150002 – Liebherr L580 wheel-loader US$ 34.95 Four more yellow models to be part of the Max Bögl edition, featuring vehicles and equipment of the large Neumarkt (Oberpfalz/Bavaria) construction company. Each is a limited edition. 120517 – Scania T124 L truck and full tank trailer, “Muly” (Devil Train), Private Collection US$ 72.50 Stefan Muly’s rig has been part of the Herpa range before. It is produced once again because the prototype got a new paint job on both the tanks and the engine cover. Limited edition. 120500 MAN F2000 Evolution truck-tractor with Spitzer silo semi-trailer, “Henglein”, Private Collection US$ 72.50 Walter Rosner designed another truck for the Henglein group, a Bavarian maker of convenience food. Herpa follows suit, but needed to do new tooling for the silo semi, which will be available without the PC box, with different tractors and in liveries in the months to come. Limited edition, new tooling.

Wiking announced their final release for 2003, which will be available at hobby shops from December on.
308 01 27 – 2004 Volkswagen Multivan (T5) - pearl white w/black interior. VW’s marketing department tries to persuade customers this is the third luxury Volkswagen, standing side by side with Phaetons and Touaregs. The healthy price tag points in the same direction, but in reality, this is a commercial vehicle, albeit a nicely spec’ed one. In 1/87th scale, there is no doubt the Multivan is more than equal to the two other upmarket offerings from VW. The Multivan review explains how fabulous a scale car the all-new Wiking model is. On the U.S. market at least, the miniature model will arrive earlier than the prototype. Suggested U.S. retail price $13.00. 897 01 34 – Menck excavator - dove blue. Wiking used to produce the Menck excavator in 1/60th scale only and re-issued the item a couple of months ago. Following numerous collectors’ requests, they developed completely new tooling for a similar machine in 1/87th scale. Wiking notes the piece is fully functioning! Suggested U.S. retail price $21.00. 612 01 39 –Rosenbauer RLFA 2000 AT - rescue pumper (M-B Atego cab and chassis) Shown as a handmade sample at this year’s Nuremberg Toy Fair, Rosenbauer’s new rescue pumper represents a very common piece of equipment in Austrian volunteer fire departments: Compact in size, mounted on a 4x4 chassis and equipped with a 2000-liter water tank, a pump, and lots of equipment for the various tasks firemen face. Plus it looks positively different from any other fire truck on the European market. Reason enough for Wiking to shrink the prototype 87 times. Suggested U.S. retail price $27.00. 823 02 13 – Borgward Isabella - ivory w/red interior. As small as she may look today – Miss Isabella was the car of those who had made it in the Germany of the 1950s. The model dates back to 1985. Wiking finally grants her a new color scheme. Suggested U.S. retail price $5.00. 839 02 25 – Volvo PV544 - orange brown w/sand interior. Another vehicle of which there is a review on this page. Amazingly enough, the Volvo’s second body color is very close to the first one. Suggested U.S. retail price $11.50. 861 06 22 –Unimog 411 - fire brigade. One of Wiking’s many vintage Unimogs comes in red and white livery. Suggested U.S. retail price $8.50. 679 02 32 – MAN TGA M-cab skip handler. The MAN remains the only ready-to-roll skip handler on the market. Wiking releases the second, generic color scheme in December, matching the other construction equipment. Suggested U.S. retail price $17.50. 104 22 29 –Audi A6 Avant/wagon - Brandenburg highway police. The German state of Brandenburg purchased a fleet of silver-and-blue police cruisers for road-test purposes under daily conditions. The highway police got a number of VW Passat, BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-class, Ford Mondeo, Opel Omega, and Audi A6 wagons. Wiking produced the Passat version in August 2002. Suggested U.S. retail price $14.50.
