Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

West Side Lumber Company '41 Chevrolet Pickup Truck - By Joe Piazza

In 1941, the West Side Lumber Company of Tuolumne, California acquired a new Chevy pickup as the Woods Boss Truck. By 1951, the truck had been downgraded to Woods Truck status. The model built by Joe Piazza depicted here reflects 10 years of hard service in the woods. The model was created using the ADP Modelle Chevy Pickup. The hood on the original model was too short so the 1.5 ton truck cab and hood was substituted. The bed was modified to reduce the oversized ribbing and the frame was lengthened to accommodate the longer hood. Finishing was done using Polly scale paints and custom decals. Weathering was accomplished using a number of products from AK Interactive, Primacolor and Bragdon. The details in the bed came from BTS, Rio Grande Models and Ralph Ratcliffe. The rear view mirror and the license plate/tail light were scratchbuilt. Custom decals were created to create the license plate, which is the exact California plate used on this truck in '51, as well as for the Indian Pump.
