Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

1929 Mack Dump Truck - By Randy Sawyer

This model of a 1929 Mack Dump Truck is one of the largest model trucks that Randy has scratchbuilt in 1/87 scale, measuring about 3 inches in length. Based on a picture found in the book "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of American Trucks." The model features three axles, simulated balloon tires, and chain drive. The tires were crafted from Plastruct tubing and the mock "steel" wheels came from two Grandt Line kits of their 1/48 scale Fairmont Push Car. The wheel flanges from these kits were removed with a grinding bit and the wheels were ground narrower in order to fabricate 28" wheels with 38" tires in 1/87 scale. Humbrol enamels were used to paint the model and it was weathered with dry paint pigments and chalk.
