Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Mack Fire Engines - By Thomas Schroeder

These were the final three fire truck models marketed by Mack Trucks prior to its acquisition by Volvo. Nearest to the lens is Athearn's replica of the "B" cab engine produced in the late 1950s and into the early 1960s, when it was replaced by the "C" cab in the center. The C cab shown here is a Ralph Ratcliffe Models resin kit reproduction of the C cab, Mack's first cab-forward design for fire apparatus. To the rear is the "CF" model sold in the 1970s and early 1980s, before Mack stopped manufacturing a regular line of fire engines. This CF replica was a resin home cast project. New York City's FDNY bought many CF models and still had a few in its reserve fleet to put into service after losing a number of engines in the 9/11 disaster at the World Trade Center.
