The base model for this German WWII Mercedes Benz L6500 refrigerated truck conversion by Rick Hoskinson was the Herpa post war Bussing 8000 box van and trailer kit. The nose was cut off at the firewall and a Wiking Mercedes Benz L10000 hood, fenders, and frame were grafted on to create a 1935-'37 L6500. Other modifications include reworking the rear wheel wells and reworking the curvature of the roof line above the cab, insetting the refrigeration grilles made from an old locomotive shell, a built in sun visor, and scribed in double door storage on the right side of the body. Herpa Trilex wheels and tires replaced the originals. Scratchbuilt items include bumper mounted clearance markers, lollipop mirrors, license plates, and tail light housing as well as the exhaust system. The headlights and tail light lenses are from MV Products and windshield wipers are from A-Line. Paint is Model Masters Panzer Gray and the number plate decals are from TL. The included prototype photo at bottom came from the Axis History Forum; the discussion being whether or not the reefer was purpose built for the Wehrmacht or was appropriated from a private source for military use.
