One of John Soehner's recent kitbashing efforts involves utilizing Ertl 1/64 gasoline trailers to make a better attempt at a 1/87 scale insulated chemical trailer train. The tanks from the Ertl material were shortened by using a chop saw to produce 29' and 31' tanks that were then secured to two Promotex container trailers that were also chopped somewhat and modified with strip styrene. Automobile TRIMBRITE trim tape was applied along the vertical cut line as well along the horizontal seams of the top and bottom halves of the tank. Fifth wheel, sand shoes, ladders and the large hose containers from Herpa/Promotex were used to detail the trailers. The cabinets housing the pumps were made from some white pine. The Mack B-61 truck tractor shown here was built from an Alloy Forms white metal kit.
