Jim Groeneweg built this International Transport 1980 Peterbilt 359 truck tractor mated with a 45’ double drop flat deck trailer. The truck cab is a joint effort with German modeler Kurt Hofmeyer who modified a Wiking cab and moved the fenders forward and raised the hood and grille heights. The fenders were then removed and larger diameter ones from a Jacobs Models Peterbilt 378 were added, hood cut-outs for dual air cleaners added, side marker lights on fenders and a 40” flat top sleeper from a Jacobs Models 378 SBA version. Many additional detail items were added the resin cab mounted on an Athearn chassis. Paint colors are International Transport fleet colors, green and yellow, with Lonestar Models' excellent cab decals applied over the paint.
The trailer is the result of some heavy kitbashing/scratchbuilding including the main deck from Italeri, front and rear sections from Kibri, Athearn wheels, resin tires and a Lonestar Models wood deck added. Rear taillight light bumper is scratchbuilt. It is a 45' double drop flat deck most closely resembles a Transcraft trailer. The Peterbilt 359 truck tractor was previously featured in Photo Gallery 690.
