Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Mercedes Fuel Truck - By Rick Hoskinson

This Mercedes fuel truck model was created by Rick Hoskinson, converting a Roco Henschel type 33 into a Mercedes Benz. Both trucks were in the same class and very similar in construction. The grille was replaced with one from a Brekina Mercedes. The cargo bed was replaced with a completely scratchbuilt fuel tank and side boxes with walkway and side boards. The running boards and storage boxes were also scratchbuilt.  Wheels and tires, including spares are from Artmaster Models. The removable soft top was modified by adding two porthole windows in back with lenses added. A winch in front of the grille is from a Roco "deuce and a half" (2.5 ton) and clearance markers are .010" brass rod tipped with Elmer's white glue. Cooling hatches were added on top of hood using strip styrene. A-Line windshield wipers were installed on the split and ventilated windshield and a scratchbuilt spotlight and lollipop mirror installed on the driver's side. The Notek light on the front fender came from Roco. Paint is Model Master Panzer grey with washes, dry brushing, and dry pigments applied for weathered effects. License plates are TL decals and spotlight and tail light lenses are from MV Products.
