Central Transport Perterbilt 579 Truck Tractor & 53' Wabash Duraplate Trailer - By Jim Groeneweg

When Jim Groeneweg recently acquired the latest Athearn Central Transport 53' Wabash National Duraplate trailer, he had to compare it to his Central Transport trailer he painted last year using his "industrial strength" 1:1 scale paint. As you can see from these photos, Athearn got it just about right! The Peterbilt Pete 579 day cab features a Tonkin/Trucks N' Stuff day cab with the side skirts removed mounted on an Athearn chassis with 5 hole steel wheels from the Athearn C Cab Ford series. The fuel tank steps were scratchbuilt, battery box step is a modified Promotex Kenworth item, DEF tank cut down from a resin Freightliner part, and a deck step plate from Tonkin. The roof and side air dam was semi-scratchbuilt from another Jacobs Models resin casting and made to fit the cab. The International 9200 is a Jacobs Models resin cab with Ryder decals.

The trailer in the foreground above is the new Athearn relase and the background trailer is an A-Line/Athearn exterior post van that has the rear barn doors removed, A-Line roll up door fitted and a modified rear DOT bumper added to complete the basic unit, which was then masked and painted. The whole unit had the authentic yellow Central Transport fleet color applied in automotive base/clear paint. Decals are from Graphics On Demand. The Peterbilt 579 and first trailer was first introduced in Photo Gallery 797.
