M-K-T Ford LNT-9000 Truck Tractor & 28' Pup Trailers - By Bob Johnson

This pair of Cotton Belt (SSW or St. Louis-Sothwestern Railroad) 28' trailers was built by Bob Johnson for Texas Northern Model Railroad Club (Plano, Texas) club president, Larry Breedlove. Larry wanted a pair of 28' trailers of his favorite railroad for his home layout due to space constraints. Each of these exterior post vans is slightly different while appearing very similar in appearance. The trailer in the foreground above and to the right in the photos below was built from an A-Line Pines exterior post trailer kit. The other Cotton Belt trailer was built from an out of production Rail Power Products kit. Both received a dull aluminum paint job, logo panels made from .010" styrene, and Microscale decals before receiving a coat of Dullcoat. The Katy Ford LNT-9000 truck tractor, introduced in Photo Gallery 760, was built by Bob Johnson using an Atlas Ford LNT-9000 tandem axle model. The Atlas model has received extensive upgrades; Plano Model Products photo-etched grille and mirrors, Athearn spoke wheels and tires, painted fuel tanks, and decals. The tractor decals are from a Microscale N scale locomotive decal set and the tractor received a coat of Dullcoat for a prototypical sun-baked red appearance. Photographed on the club layout of the Texas Northern Model Railroad Club in Plano, Texas.
