Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

1960s GMC T6500 Straight Truck - By Jim Groeneweg

This little model from Jim Groeneweg is a great example of the "olden days" of 1/87 scale vehicle modeling. Jim built this GMC T6500 using a Matchbox GMC Tilt cab from the 60s; originally a refrigerated truck with red cab and green box. As a kid he left it intact but in his late teens Jim decided a different look would be much better so he cut the cab free from the chassis and set it up on a chassis along with a van body out of Balsa wood, sanded and painted to hide the grain. Anyway, for what it is worth, minus a few mirror details parts, this is basically what we came up with back then......Lindberg wheels and tires. The lift gate was never functional but it HAD to have one apparently! We've certainly come a long way!
