Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Kenworth W900 Logging Truck - By Sergey Zawislak

Sergey Zawislak submitted these photo of his attempt to improve an ordinary Promotex logging truck. Its hood was raised and lengthened to form the much more realistic cab view. The sun visor was replaced by a scratchbuilt one. The windshield was moved to the outside of the cab to provide contact with new windshield wipers. All textures on doors were smoothed out and new Plano door handles installed. The mufflers are tubing with formed photo etched heat shields. The ends of the exhausts were drilled and painted in black to make it more realistic. The scratchbuilt trailer's center beam in fact is not solid but consists of two parts. This is a necessary measure to achieve an acceptable result. The trailer's suspension was also rebuilt to hide the steel wheels' axles. All marker lights were made from plastic rods of different sizes and cuts. The driver's step-toolbox is built in Kenworth style from Evergreen plastic styrene. The stuff for the wood load Sergey got from his home Christmas tree before its recycling. The thinnest branches were peeled, dried, straightened, painted brown and shaped with thin sandpaper. He also replaced some original details on the truck such as wheels, mirrors, wheels, and fenders. Almost all decals are homemade.
