Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

1981 Cadillac Eldorado - By Jim Groeneweg

Jim Groeneweg ways this Cadillac Eldorado sat on the shelf a long time because it just didn't look like the proportions were correct. Recently, Jim says, he decided to take another look, compared the dimensions, and realized it was quite close to scale; very close in fact. He then saw what the problem was; the glass has a silver insert (side windows) that throws it off and more so, the door/window line is too high giving that chopped top look. The solution? Drop the window line on 1/4 glass and door then strip the paint, file it smooth, and repaint the unit in authentic Cadillac code 92, Victorian Plum Firemist automotive base/clear paint system with spectacular results shown here. A Cadillac Eldorado that somewhat looks like one. The original is shown at the bottom of this page for comparison.
