Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Mack R600 Bridge & Tunnel Tow Truck - By Brian Donato

This Mack R model single axle tow truck is loosely based on the bridge and tunnel rescue tow trucks in and around New York City. Brian Donato built his model using an Athearn cab and frame cut and spliced with a Boley tow truck body and frame. The body was hand painted and detailed to be more realistic. The front push bumper is built from styrene strips. Brian added styrene to the bottom of each side of the body under the cabinets to give it some height. He also used scale metal screen material to form a tool storage area that has a traffic cone, sledge hammer, jacks, etc. Strobe lights are from Boley and Herpa. The tow truck bed has an air compressor with hose, added tool cabinet (cut away from an Athearn fire truck body), scale chain, fire extinguisher, tool box, broom, and shovel. Brian also added two hydraulic stabilizers to the rear of the body. Weathering was done with MIG pigments, Tamiya powders, and Smokey Mountain powders.
