Link-Belt LS-248H Truck Mounted Crane - By Thomas Kelly

Thomas Kelly sacrificed a Classic Construction Models brass Link-Belt 248 crawler crane to build this truck mounted crane. Thomas removed from the crawler tracks and mounted the superstructure on a custom built truck chassis. The truck chassis was built using a Kibri Demag crane kit chassis that was cut into sections with the sections moved around to create the proper spacing for the outriggers, then covered with a new anti-skid decking modified in the back to represent a Link-Belt truck chassis. The deck has a scratchbuilt engine compartment and scratchbuilt front end(lights, grill, etc.). The cab was built using part of the Kibri truck cab and the wheels/tires are from Don Mills Models (the Hayes Logger kit). The model has the optional idler axle with Herpa wheels and the boom dolly was built using Herpa/Promotex parts and is pinned to the boom. Thomas has built several of these and he also has one with full boom including a jib. On display at the 2014 East Coast Meet in W. Springfield, MA.
