Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

"Frankentruck" Truck Tractor - By Brian Donato

Brian Donato built this truck tractor model he refers to as "Frankentruck" because this name implies a truck that steals bits and pieces from other trucks. Just like Frankenstein, just not with human parts. Brian borrowed this term from John of AA Hobbies in Warwick, Rhode Island.

This truck certainly fits the "Frankentruck" definition. The model started out as a Herpa GMC General and soon took shape with added steel hood panels made from styrene, a vertical bar grille from styrene, and a lot of sanding and filler putty. Brian says it almost took shape as a Mack but we'll call it a "frankentruck," basically a generic culmination of North American work horse imagery. It features a resin headache rack, Roco amber strobe lights, A-Line wheels, copper wire formed for air lines, Athearn exhaust stack, scale chain, and various other details from the parts box. The exhaust pipe connecting the vertical stack to the engine exhaust manifold is hand formed copper wire. The hand rails were fashioned from paper clips. Rear mounted work lights on the headache rack are from a Roco Peterbilt tow rig, tail lights above the mud flaps are pieces sourced from Boley, and the spotlights are from River Point Station. Painted with a Rustoleum "rattle can" green and hand painted details with black acrylics; the silver painted details we done with an Elmer's paint marker.
