Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Ford Aeromax Truck Tractor & Blackhawk Lowboy Trailer - By Jeff Black

Jeff Black recently built this rig using a Promotex Ford Aeromax truck tractor that he painted brown. For added realism, he painted the roof marker lights orange and silver, painted a black fender strip above the two cab wheels, added a Dennis Aust headache rack, and replaced the plastic grille with a Ford Aeromax stainless grille from Plano Models. Jeff shaved off the tiny Ford emblem on the original plastic grille and glued it onto the new one.

The trailer is from a Puget Sound Blackhawk Lowboy kit. For added realism Jeff drilled 13 evenly spaced holes on each side of the main body of the Lowboy. Half covering the holes are 12 lowboy outriggers from Plano Models. In addition to the kit’s standard rear tail lights, Jeff added three more from Lonestar Models to the bottom center of the trailer and placed Lonestar Models red and white conspicuity striping all around the trailer. The lowboy load is a Caterpillar 315CL excavator from one of Jeff's HO scale train cars.
