Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Helsinki, Finland 1956 Volvo L230 Fire Engine - By Jussi Kivi

Jussi Kivi submitted these photos of his 1956 Volvo L230, a fire engine from his hometown of Helsinki, Finland. The original rig was in a fire station in his childhood neighborhood during the '60s. Jussi says he dreamed of having a model of it when he was a kid, but it took quite a while to get it (something we all can relate to!). For the body Jussi used parts from three different Brekina models and plastic sheet; the hood is scratchbuilt. Wheels and mudguards are from Brekina too. Additional small parts are from different manufacturers (plastic & photo etched) or scratchbuilt. The model is painted with Revell semi-gloss red and then coated with Johnson floor wax for plastic floors. Jussi says this is a good combination for a realistic glossy surface in this scale - not too glossy.
