Garrett Freightlines Kenworth Needle Nose Truck Tractor - By Dean Hess

Dean Hess built this Garrett Freightlines truck as a special order customer truck. The truck tractor began as an Ulrich Kenworth with stretched frame and no fuel tank on the right side with snow chains hanging in place. Note the exhaust stack directly from the side of the hood; this truck represents an early mid '50s turbocharged diesel engine. These early engines were subject to overheating with exhaust manifold damage quite common. This also coincides with the introduction of 40' trailers and heavier loads. The trailer started as a Herpa with lots of work, notably the arched wheel openings, new lower side rails, spare tire and carrier. Dean built the model from a photo.
