Thomas Kelly built this truck mounted crane using a Classic Construction
Models Link-Belt 248H-II crawler crane minus the track unit
mounted on modified crane truck built from a Kibri Demag AC 665 hydraulic
truck crane chassis. This was done by removing the forward drivers
cab from the front of the Kibri kit, then cutting the cab down to a
one man unit and reinstalling it on top of the crane carrier deck next
to a modified engine housing. All this was mounted over new nonskid
decking installed across the front of the crane carrier to match the
rest of the decking. Next, the middle 2 axle/wheel units were removed
and a new third rear "floater" axle placed in front of the
two rear drive axles installed as per an option available from Link-Belt.
New drive train system finished out the bottom of crane carrier and new
ladders on both sides were also installed. Painted in Link-Belt scheme
with custom blended colors (red, white, aluminum & black). Finished
with boom cradle made from Herpa 3 axle boogie and Evergreen styrene
painted to match crane scheme. Displayed at the 2003 National
Convention.
